At CCL, we’re always looking to bring innovative products to our customers but we’re careful to make sure our portfolio is curated rather than crowded. One of the most exciting additions to our portfolio this year is the Sigenergy range which includes the  SigenStor and SigenStack integrated solar and storage solutions for residential and C&I installations.

We’ve had the Sigenergy products in stock for a while now, and with demand growing, it’s time to take a closer look at some of the things installers ask us. Here are the most common questions we get asked about SigenStor and SigenStack.

    1. What’s the difference between SigenStor and SigenStack?

SigenStor is an integrated 5-in-1, PV and battery storage system with modular components. It has been designed for residential and small to mid-commercial applications.

SigenStack is Sigenergy’s latest BESS solution designed specifically for commercial and industrial applications. It features the same innovative modular approach making system placement and installation much simpler, but has larger capacity battery modules and is paired with a range of bigger, three phase, hybrid inverters.

Both systems are designed for faster and easier installation, with no complex wiring between modules, and automatic device networking for ultra-fast commissioning of the entire system. They can be used in a DC or AC coupled scenario.

    2. What are the main components for each system?

SigenStor is a fully-integrated stack system. The system includes a solar inverter, optional EV DC charger, battery PCS, battery pack and EMS. At the top is the Energy Controller (the inverter, PCS and EMS) which is available as single-phase version from 3 to 12kW, with 200% DC oversizing, or as three-phase version from 5 to 30kW with 160% oversizing. Battery modules come in 5kWh and 8kWh options, with a new 6kWh and 9kWh module now added to the range.

The optional, integrated modular EVDC charger delivers up to 25kW, is V2X-ready, for bi-directional charging and includes RFID and OCPP for commercial payment and management integration. It’s a great fit for both homes and businesses preparing for future EV flexibility.

The SigenStack system comprises a series of 12kWh battery modules supported by a hybrid inverter that’s available in 50 / 60 / 80 / 100 / 110 /

125kW sizes. The EMS of the system is built-in the hybrid inverter.

    3. How scalable is each system?

One of Sigenergy’s biggest selling points is scalability. With SigenStor, you can add up to six battery modules per unit. For larger commercial-scale systems, multiple SigenStor units can be connected in parallel up to the megawatt level if necessary. This makes it one of the most flexible all-in-one solutions on the market today.

With SigenStack, you can add up to seven battery modules per stack and up to 21 modules per inverter—providing up to 252 kWh of storage per inverter. Linking multiple SigenStack systems makes it possible to design custom solutions at the megawatt scale, with up to 100 inverters connected in parallel in one system.

This incremental scalability allows the installation to be fine-tuned during design to better meet the project’s energy requirements, without the need for the large jumps in energy storage capacity typically seen in other large-scale systems.

    4. Can I mix and match battery modules in a SigenStor system?

Yes. SigenStor batteries use an optimizer at pack level which allows each battery pack to be independent from each other in terms of capacity, age, SOC and even cell technology. You can start with a single module and expand at any time up to six in a stack using different SigenStor batteries giving you storage capacity from 5kWh up to 54kWh.

Each battery module has its own optimiser, heating, monitoring and fire suppression, so you can expand storage in the future.

It’s important to note that SigenStor and SigenStack battery modules are not interchangeable, as they are physically different from each other.

    5. What mounting options are available?

Neither system needs any specialised ground works beyond a level, load-bearing floor. SigenStor can be wall-mounted for systems of up to two batteries, larger systems with up to six battery modules need to be mounted on the ground.

    6. What about battery safety?

Sigenergy employs multiple layers of safety features and fire suppression within both systems. The battery chemistry in both systems is LFP which is considered to be safer than other lithium ion chemistries, due to thermal stability, and each battery pack is equipped with its own fire protection system. The system is designed – and has been recently tested to prove that it will contain a fire within a single battery pack, preventing thermal runaway or flame spread to adjacent modules or racks.

    7. What Makes SigenStack Different to other C&I Storage Solutions?

SigenStack is the first DC-coupled modular storage solution for C&I applications– improving round-trip efficiency by up to 2% when compared with traditional, AC-coupled solutions where more energy is lost due to additional power conversions and extra cabling.

And, since the system is modular, there’s no need for cranes or other special installation equipment often needed in larger capacity systems.

    8. How about the support software?

We’re hearing great feedback from installers about the Sigenergy management system that supports both the SigenStor and SigenStack systems. Everything is managed through the MySigen app – it’s just one app for commissioning, monitoring and user settings. The app includes smart AI tools for monitoring and troubleshooting, remote fault diagnostics and access to the RMA process and documents. Because it’s powered by AI, when using the SigenAI operation mode it learns and adapts the system’s energy usage to the customer’s consumption habits to get the most out of the system.

For desktop monitoring, the installers have the option of the the SigenCloud which has been designed for device lifecycle management and business decision-making

Designed for full system visibility for system and home owners, the mySigen app provides real-time energy flow charts, comprehensive energy data graphs – and includes a GPT-4.0 powered smart assistant to boost system performance and efficiency.

    9. What about backup?

Not only does SigenStor have whole house backup, it offers a seamless transition between on-grid and off-grid, meaning it switches over very close to 0ms. It’s a unique feature for domestic systems.

    10. What’s the warranty like?

SigenStor includes a 10-year warranty which is extendable to 15 years. The C&I hybrid inverters are backed by a 10-year warranty extendable to 15years and the SigenStack battery modules have a 10 year warranty based on 3500 or 5000 cycles subject to the C-rate of the system.

One of the newest additions to our range, the Sigenergy systems are fast becoming one of our most popular choices for both homes and business. Both systems deliver on flexibility, scalability. Importantly, both offer installer-friendly solutions.
